Luigi LaCross is a four piece combo that came together during the summer of 2012 to play each other’s original music. The group features John Croarkin (flute, bass flute, harmonica, alto & soprano saxophones), Drew Gibbs (piano, hand percussion, drum kit), Phil Lawson (guitar), and Steve Luceno (string bass, seven string guitar, vocals). They all live in Olympia WA, and have performed as Luigi LaCross at St. Martins University, The Royal Lounge (alias Rhythm & Rye), Traditions Fair Trade Café, and at the Washington Center for the Performing Arts “Black Box Jazz Composers Caberet Series.’ Their first CD is due to be released in May 2014; it will include, as a special guest, singer Lizzie Boyer on two songs.

In performance, the band plays originals, Brazilian music (modern choros, Hermeto Pascoal tunes, bossa-nova), and a mix of “personalized” jazz and pop standards. Each of the musicians has a long history of performance and recording in a wide variety of styles: jazz, Caribbean, Brazilian, rhythm & blues. Intimate, highly spirited, and surprising, catch Luigi LaCross with special guest vocalist Lizzie Boyer at this CD release gig.
